It is proposed in conferences, meetings, and concerts to promote intercultural and multicultural dialogue and the value of peace, and aims to make Italy's historical, artistic, cultural, educational, and linguistic heritage of world value through cultural dialogue.
From Japan, Director Daisuke Tarutani donated to Mr. Luciano a replica of the “Sadako's Crane,” which conveys to the world the memory of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in a wish for world peace.
"I am proud to have created a place for exchange with Japan in Venice, where history and handicrafts are so important.
I am grateful for our friendship, which respects and values each other's history and culture,” said Rena Masuyama,
President of the Eurasia International Film Festival.
"Through these efforts, we hope to realize film exchanges that transcend national borders, rather than wars and divisions” (Daisuke Tarutani, West)
After the screening of the film, a cocktail party was held on the terrace where the sun shone through the trees. The consul and actors also performed with their swords.
Consuls and actors also took part in the demonstration with swords, and the friendship that transcended national borders was very much appreciated.
Sigillini will continue to work with the Eurasia International Film Festival and WestEast Productions to distribute its films in Hollywood and Europe.

The greatest appeal of this film lies not only in the excellent performances by the actors, but also in the unique visual beauty of its stoic camera work and superb editing. Director Sho Miyake's direction also succeeds in minimizing the actors' performances and reducing unnecessary dialogue (including sign language) to show the characters' facial expressions in detail.
The boxing match scenes are quite realistic and powerful, but the film dares to suppress the excitement of the match, which is common in conventional boxing films. The camera captures the changes in the heroine Keiko's facial expressions and breathing, giving the viewer a sense of realism, as if watching a documentary film.

The music video (MV) for a new song released by the popular Japanese band Mrs. GREEN APPLE on the evening of June 12 was heavily criticized on social networking sites as "racist" and "colonialist," and the band and its record company apologized for the suspension.
I would like to comment on this issue from a slightly different perspective. I would like to use this "fire" as an opportunity to let many people know something.
What is the content of the music video that caused a huge firestorm?
Although few of you may already know this, just in case, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, a band popular among the younger generation, released a music video for a new song titled "Columbus" on the 12th of this month (the release of the music video was suspended on the 13th).
In this music video, the band members, dressed as Columbus, Napoleon, and others, discover an island inhabited by apes and interact with them. In historical fact, Columbus "discovered" the Americas, and it was the indigenous people who lived there. Therefore, the fact that the band members dressed as Columbus met apes on the island is an expression that can be seen as degrading the indigenous people to a subhuman existence, and at that point it is out.
At the core of colonialism is the discrimination of indigenous peoples as inferior to themselves, and the music video for "Columbus," of all things, traces this distorted sense of superiority. In other words, the band members teach the apes how to play the piano and salute in the military style, acting as if they are "teaching apes about human (i.e., white) culture," and they even let the apes pull the rickshaw they are riding in.
When Columbus arrived in the Caribbean, he looted gold from the indigenous people who welcomed him, massacred them, and abducted and enslaved many of them. It is common knowledge in world history that the indigenous peoples of the Americas were devastated by the invasions of Western powers after Columbus, and that there are several civilizations that were destroyed and tribes that became extinct. When the music video of Mrs. GREEN APPLE positively features Columbus, I have to say that the music video of Mrs. GREEN APPLE is still problematic.
Colonialism and Coca-Cola
Now, this has been discussed in other media commentaries, but what caught my attention is that the music video for Mrs. GREEN APPLE's "Columbus" was produced in a tie-up with the Coca-Cola Company. In fact, the band members are drinking a drink that looks like Coke in the music video, and the lyrics are rather explicit, as they say "carbonated creation," "like pouring into my thirsty heart," and "I want to drink up my love.
As a matter of fact, I initially thought, "If this music video was a convincing irony, superimposing the invader Columbus on the colonialist business of Coca-Cola, wouldn't that rock in the best way?" But alas, it seems that I bought it and was simply ignorant and inconsiderate, as evidenced by the band's explanatory statement. However, the issue of the colonialist aspect of the Coca-Cola Company itself remains the same.
In Japan, the Coca-Cola Group appears to be emphasizing corporate social responsibility (CSR), as evidenced by Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan's water resource conservation activities (related information), but on a global scale, "water conflicts" are occurring in India and Mexico, for example. The Coca-Cola plant has pumped up so much water that wells have dried up, farmlands have dried up, and other problems have occurred.
Coca-Cola's music videos under fire in the Muslim world
From a Middle East-related perspective, which I have been involved in for a long time, the relationship between Israel and Coca-Cola has recently come under "fire" internationally as well. In countries with large Muslim populations in the Middle East and Asia, the Israeli attack on Gaza since last October has led to boycott movements against companies allegedly closely associated with Israel, dealing a blow to these companies. The Coca-Cola Company was one such target, and the company, which has called the boycott a "misunderstanding," aired a commercial in Bangladesh that claimed that "Coca-Cola has nothing to do with Israel.
In the commercial, a store clerk reassures a man who refuses to drink Coca-Cola that "this is not from that country (Israel)" and that "there is a Coca-Cola factory in Palestine. The media in Bangladesh and the Middle East, including Al Jazeera, criticized Coca-Cola, saying that "Coca-Cola has a factory in Palestine.
This is because the so-called "Coca-Cola factory in Palestine" - the Atarot district near Jerusalem, where Coca-Cola's Israeli distribution center and refrigeration facilities are located - is a so-called Jewish settlement and is under Israeli occupation and control. According to a report by the Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS/Institute for Palestine Studies) (2019), companies operating in the Atarot area receive preferential treatment, including tax breaks, from the Israeli government, while Palestinian workers are forced to work for low wages, The IPS report notes that the Atarot district as an Israeli industrial park is contrary to international law and based on colonial rule.
Settlements Trigger Gaza Attacks
To begin with, the more than 160 Jewish settlements that have been established in the West Bank are in themselves a major problem in many respects. First of all, conducting settlement activities in occupied territories is contrary to international law and international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions. The goal of Middle East peace based on the Oslo Accords (1993) is for the Palestinian territories to become independent as a state and to coexist peacefully with Israel, but Jewish settlements scattered all over the Palestinian territories in the West Bank are a fact of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. The Jewish settlements scattered throughout the Palestinian territories in the West Bank are a fact of Israeli occupation of Palestine. Since the Oslo Accords, Israel's right-wing government has promoted the construction of Jewish settlements as a means of obstructing the Middle East peace process, which they oppose and which is predicated on the independence of a Palestinian state.
I have also covered Jewish settlements and adjacent Palestinian towns, villages, and settlements, and I can say that to the Palestinian people, settlers are "terrorists" without exaggeration. In fact, armed settlers frequently attack, assault, and kill Palestinians. Palestinian villages are routinely attacked by settlers, olive groves are torched, Palestinian residential areas are shot at, dirt and stones are thrown, etc. However, Israeli authorities rarely crack down on these settlers. Instead, settlers are protected by the Israeli military, and Palestinians who protest against settler violence are arrested and detained, or worse, shot.
The increase in the number of Jewish settlements and the settlers' wolf-whistling have naturally provoked strong anger on the Palestinian side, and Hamas claims that Jewish settlements were a factor in the large-scale raids by Hamas and others that triggered the current Israeli attack on Gaza.
If you are "against discrimination," you should rethink your business in Israel.
In the Gaza attacks, war crimes in violation of international humanitarian law by the Israeli side are repeated every day, and the UN Security Council has demanded a ceasefire. Even before the recent Gaza attack, UN human rights experts and human rights organizations have pointed out that Israel's occupation of Palestine is "apartheid.
In response to the invasion of Ukraine, several large companies with international operations, including Japanese companies, have withdrawn from Russia. If it is truly "against discrimination," perhaps the Coca-Cola Company should reconsider its operations in Israel.
That is not a decision that can be made by Coca-Cola Japan K.K., the Japanese subsidiary of Coca-Cola, but rather by the Coca-Cola headquarters in the U.S. At the very least, the Coca-Cola Group as a whole will continue to face criticism in the future as long as Coca-Cola's Israeli subsidiary continues its economic activities in the settlements. This is an unavoidable situation. On the other hand, Japanese consumers also cannot make fun of Mrs. GREEN APPLE's ignorance and lack of consideration. Invasion, occupation, human rights violation, and discrimination are not things of the past, but problems that are happening now. From this perspective, it is still necessary to choose products and services that do not involve ourselves in harm.

The WestEast International Screening was held at the 77th Cannes International Film Festival held in Cannes, France, from May 20 to 23.
A video report was released on June 17.
https://youtu.be/lLg3gOi8Zjo
The Cannes International Film Festival is one of the three major film festivals in the world, and on May 21, a film screening and a samurai show of "THE LAND OF RISING GOD" were held at the Hotel Barrière Le Gray d'Albion, the official venue of the Cannes International Film Festival.
At the venue on the 21st, John, a representative of the foreign media Monaco Week International, and the British media also came to cover the event, as well as the diverse audience and interviewers attending the Cannes Film Festival from various countries and regions, including India, Ukraine, China, and France.
Some fans showed up who had seen the Samurai Show held in the city of Cannes from the previous day and went to the festival every day.
The MC for the event was Daisuke Tarutani, peace activist and film director, and Rena Masuyama, film director.
The audience was treated to "Daisuke and Rena's Making Film" introducing films broadcast on Tokyo MX TV, "Lost in 24" directed by May Liu, who is active in the U.S., the film "The Sword of Toshizo" (directed by Rena Masuyama, Daisuke Tarutani, and Andrei Muyshkin), "Sadako's Crane," which tells about the atomic bomb damage in Hiroshima (Rena Masuyama and Daisuke Tarutani)
DIVERSITY UNITED" directed by Daisuke Tarutani, "The Undeleteable Promise" (Director: Kazumichi Okubo / Screenwriter: Fumiko Kusabe)
Kurashiki Hachiman Monogatari" (directed by Makiko Mishiro) were screened, sharing a passion for film that transcends national borders.
During the screening of "Kurashiki Hachiman Monogatari," a message of encouragement from Kurashiki Mayor Kaori Ito was shown on video. Actress and journalist Yulia Fukatsuki also performed a Japanese dance.
The samurai show "The Land of Rising God" (THE LAND OF RISING GOD) script by Fumiko Kusabe produced by Eri Namiki" was presented twice, before and after the movie performance.
Shigemi Sawa played the role of Nobunaga Oda, Daisuke Tarutani played the role of Mitsuhide Akechi, and Hana Kasuga played the roles of Shoshin Fukui, Hitoshi Murai, and Oichi no Okata.
The show, which expressed the bond between Oda Nobunaga and Akechi Mitsuhide, who overlapped Christ and his own death, with a new interpretation of the "Honnoji Incident," received a great response.
Tarutani's daughter, Sofia Pohidonia, who has relatives in both Ukraine and Russia, donated a postcard of her painting "Tree of Peace," which was donated to the Pope and painted for world peace.
Masuyama shared his thoughts on peace and the secret story of the filming of "AI is for Love," which was shot 1 km to Gaza, as well as his four-year effort to produce the Japanese-Russian film "Toshisan no Katana," which was also interspersed during the Corona War, and his thoughts on peace, which drew sympathetic comments from film professionals from across the border.
The WestEast International Film Festival, led by Tarutani, is a program that seeks mutual respect for cultures and world peace through film, and the Cannes International Film Festival also began with the desire for a society free of war and oppression.
The Cannes International Film Festival, now in its 77th year, was started in 1946 in response to the suppression of expression by Nazi Germany at the Venice International Film Festival, in the hope for free and peaceful expression.
Sharing their thoughts with world-class filmmakers, Tarutani and Masuyama's journey continues: at the end of June, they will be invited to the Antares International Film Festival in Sochi, Russia, as a jury member to promote their film "The Sword of Toshizo".
In September, he will participate in the Venice International Film Festival.

Asahi Shimbun article causes a firestorm: "If you're worried about war zones, go there" and "Be thankful for your own happiness and those around you" - Prescriptions from a fellow journalist.

Rei Shiba, freelance journalist (environment, human rights, war and peace)
I'm cancelling my subscription", "garbage article"... the condemnation is truly thunderous.
The Asahi Shimbun digital series "(A Crucible of Worries)" has been criticized by many.
In this series, scholars and TV personalities respond to readers' inquiries. The article published on May 18 was a response to a consultation from a man who was troubled by "the attacks on Gaza, the invasion of Ukraine, etc. that I see in the media, which make me feel angry and despair, and I cannot keep my peace of mind.
The TV personality Naoko Nozawa responded to this consultation by saying, "If you are so worried, why don't you actually go to the battlefield and fight?" "Before lamenting such things, be thankful that you are happy and take care of the people around you.
Not only Ms. Nozawa's response, but also the editorial board members' comments on the same article were criticized, and the editorial board members apologized.
(A Crucible of Worries) Men Angry at Injustice in the World Naoko Nozawa's discomfort "You are now..."
https://digital.asahi.com/articles/ASS5K30WGS5KUCVL02MM.html
The consultation received from the man was to the effect that "I suppose it would be better if I did not read the newspaper, but I feel uncomfortable as if I am turning away from social issues," and "I suppose I should just think about leading my own life peacefully, but I cannot separate the two," which showed his serious and sincere personality.
Nozawa's response, "People want what they don't have, and you are happy, so you want 'something to worry about,'" provoked a strong backlash from readers who saw the article,
"I'm shocked that the Asahi Shimbun is carrying this.
It's so bad I'm thinking of canceling my subscription.
"It's garbage."
I don't think being indifferent to the world = keeping the peace. It is simply self-preservation.
The newspaper is now in a state of "flames," with many people expressing their outrage not only at Mr. Nozawa's response, but also at the Asahi Shimbun newspaper for publishing it.
The author, who is a journalist and has covered both Ukraine and Gaza, will explain this issue.
0 Going to the scene of the conflict does not make the conflict go away
First of all, from my experience of reporting on the ground in conflict zones, it is by no means the case that you will find peace of mind by going to the field.
In fact, the more I interact with and get to know the local people and see firsthand the horrific reality of war, the stronger my resentment toward the absurdity of the world and the powerlessness of myself becomes.
However, I do not think it is wrong to feel such conflicts and resentments. I don't think it's wrong to feel these conflicts and resentments, because they are what motivate me.
In my case, I am a journalist (even though it may be self-satisfying, and even though it does not solve the problem dramatically), so I sublimate* my resentment and conflict with my work.
*However, since I am a journalist, I naturally try to present information in accordance with the facts, rather than putting my own feelings first. It is important to continue to think from what I see and hear in the field rather than to be rigid in my own principles and arguments.
The media should report what we can do as citizens
To begin with, actually going to war zones is a high hurdle even for those in the media, and it would be absurd to ask them to do so, but they can act as citizens even if they do not have a place or opportunity to sublimate their conflicts and resentments as part of their own work.
For example, one option is to act by participating in demonstrations in support of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
ICC prosecutors have requested arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others for intentionally causing civilian casualties in connection with the Gaza offensive, and for obstructing aid deliveries and causing starvation.
Regardless of whether the arrest warrants issued by the ICC actually result in the arrest of Prime Minister Netanyahu and others, it would be a major diplomatic blow to Israel, and it would also make it difficult for Western countries that are close to Israel to provide military assistance to Israel.
On the 22nd, an action calling for the Japanese government to support the ICC's move was held in front of the Prime Minister's official residence as an "urgent action in front of the Prime Minister's official residence calling for support for the request for an ICC arrest warrant and sanctions against Israel.
If you live far from Tokyo, you can also support the petition by signing it.
Of course, participation in such actions will not completely eliminate conflicts and resentments, and it will not immediately change everything, but citizens are not powerless.
0Reporting for Hope, Not Despair
The most egregious aspect of the Asahi Shimbun article is its own total denial of the role of the media. In the same article, Mr. Nozawa said
No one knows whether the world will get worse or not. Before lamenting such things, be thankful that you are happy now and take care of the people around you.
He writes, "I don't need the international press to tell me this. This could be taken to mean that there is no need for international reporting, and it is "media suicide" for the Asahi Shimbun, a news organization, to publish such an assertion.
The primary role of the media is to disseminate information, but the purpose of reporting should not be to simply make people despair and turn their eyes away from world events. Rather, its role should be to contribute to the creation of a better society and world.
The 600-seat theater was filled to capacity and the "Samurai Show" was popular in Egypt. Performances conveying the "spirit of Japan" including a play about Nobunaga Oda, a screening of the Noto support film "Peace Rally," and the introduction of "Sadako's Cranes" were held.

This performance was the first time for the company to present a performance at the Cannes International Film Festival in France. The company has also presented plays such as "The Land of Rising God," a new interpretation of the reason for Nobunaga Oda's death, and has taught sword fighting, directed the movie "Peace Rally" (Daisuke Tarutani) and the music videos "Sonic Boom" and "Sadako's Crane. The program conveys the "spirit of the Samurai.
The story of Nobunaga Oda was translated into Arabic.
Daisuke Tarutani, Shigemi Sawa, Tobito Murai, Masuma Fukui, Rena Masuyama, and Keiko Ogawa performed, and Eri Namiki wrote the script. The theater suggested that "religious expressions" should be avoided in the performance in Arabic-speaking countries, and Fumiko Kusabe, who wrote the script, rewrote the script to convey the message to Arabic-speaking audiences. The script was rewritten to make it accessible to Arabic-speaking audiences.
In the English version, the narration read by Sean K. was replaced by an AI narration. In the Arabic version, the background screen was utilized and Arabic subtitles were attached to the dialogue.
Oda Nobunaga was trying his best to unify Japan and end the warring states in which Japanese were killing each other, but in the midst of his efforts, rebellion broke out and Nobunaga lost his life. Today, the popular Japanese stage play "The Land of the Rising Sun" tells the story of Nobunaga's death to bring peace to Japan and the beautiful samurai spirit that flows through it." (From the opening narration of the Arabic version of "The Land of the Rising Sun" by Fumiko Kusabe for Arabic script)
A scene is also added about Nobunaga's sister Oichi's exchange with Nagamasa at Honnoji Temple, which is engulfed in flames, where she asks to die with her husband Nagamasa Asai, but wants him to live for the sake of their children. Rena Masuyama played the role of Oichi no Kata, while Nagamasa Asai was played by Hitoshi Murai.
Newly added was a performance utilizing karate techniques directed by karate master Daisuke Tarutani. Every time they performed a sword fight on stage, "Oh!" the audience erupts. Dozens of Egyptian youths who wished to become Samurai came up on stage and learned to kill on the spot.
Audience members who attended the event asked why Japanese samurai choose to die themselves, wished Egypt would build a facility for learning samurai culture, and said they would like to see a more full-length stage performance next time.

Japan's still historically weak yen has had a significant impact on Golden Week overseas travel.
The number of Japanese travelling abroad during Golden Week in 2024 was around 520,000.
Compared to the previous year, this is an increase, but approximately halved compared to the pre-Corona year 2019.
The average cost of an overseas trip was approximately JPY 269,000 per person, with the top three destinations for Golden Week in 2024 being South Korea in first place, Southeast Asia in second place and Taiwan in third place.
Europe, which was second in 2019 before Corona, and Hawaii, which was third, dropped down the rankings.
The depreciation of the yen is changing the style of Japanese people's overseas travel.
Prices abroad are too high to be considered in Japan.
For example, when eating at a restaurant, tonkotsu ramen at a Japanese ramen restaurant in New York costs about 3,255 yen, and even more if you add a tip.
Even if you cook for yourself, three tomatoes cost about 1,083 yen at a supermarket in Hawaii, about three times the price in Japan. A pack of 12 eggs costs about 1,238 yen, which is five times more than in Japan.
Due to the high cost of everything, an increasing number of people travelling from Japan to the USA and other countries bring rice, instant food and other items from Japan in advance, and try to reduce their expenses during the trip as much as possible.
The prolonged depreciation of the yen is changing the way Japanese people enjoy their overseas trips, from shopping and dining to enjoying the local beaches, enjoying nature and visiting famous places of interest.
Tokyo is now the fourth "cheapest city" among the world's 40 most expensive tourist destinations, and the shopping and dining that used to be the main purposes of overseas travel for Japanese people are now the main purposes of travel for foreign tourists to Japan. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this phenomenon is occurring.
On April 24, Daisuke Tarutani, a director of the Eurasia International Film Festival, media producer, and peace activist, visited the Vatican, the headquarters of Christian Catholicism, to attend a special audience with Pope Francis, which he had been strongly hoping for.
As one of the only Japanese citizens in the A-bombed country, Tarutani, aiming for the abolition of nuclear weapons, personally handed Pope Francis a replica of a paper crane left by Sadako Sasaki, who died at the age of 12 after being exposed to the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and who became the model for the "Children of the Atomic Bomb" statue in Peace Memorial Park.
I told him that the paper cranes were filled with Sadako's thoughts and wishes for the abolition of nuclear weapons," said Tarutani.

(photo)Shibuya, Tokyo, just after the start of the invasion of Ukraine Ukrainian woman in Japan appealing for sanctions against Russia
Ukraine's resistance to the invasion by Russia is in an extremely difficult situation, pushed by Russia's physical onslaught due to the stagnation of military assistance from the United States. Even if support from the U.S. were to increase again in the future, in any case, the Ukrainian side will not be able to make fewer sacrifices, and the financial burden on the Western side will be heavy. On the other hand, if this invasion leads to the victory of Russian President Vladimir Putin, it will be a defeat not only for Ukraine but also for the international community, which values freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, and will inevitably have a major negative impact on the future world order. That is why it is necessary to contain Russia not only by force of arms but also by the power of diplomacy.
